ORIGINS

Daiwa x Malosi

Daiwa and Malosi Studio are proud to present Origins, a film collaboration over a year in the making, spanning three countries. This series tells the origin stories of Briggsy, JE Wilds, Jon and Niko Malosi with more depth and intimacy than ever before, exploring where they come from, the experiences and species that shaped them, and what drives them to do what they do. Raw, personal and cinematic, Origins goes beyond fishing to uncover the people behind it.

As part of this collaboration with Daiwa, we've created a range of custom one-of-a-kind exclusive prizes. You can win by registering below.

BRIGGSY

Before the audience, the cameras, and the recognition, Briggsy was just fishing ledges with friends, chasing pelagics with whatever gear they had. Those gnarly early missions, driven by curiosity, frustration, and obsession, shaped the way he fishes to this day. Long before Morning Tide Fishing existed, the foundations were set in salt spray, missed fish, and the quiet satisfaction of learning things the hard way.

JE WILDS

JE Wilds grew up in the far north of New Zealand, where land-based kingfish were a way of life. Drawn to remote ledges and adventure from an early age, he learned patience, persistence, and respect for the ocean through trial and error. That same drive carries through everything he does today, always seeking wild places, hard-earned moments, and stories that can’t be manufactured.

JON & NIKO

Raised between New Zealand and Samoa, Jon and Niko learned to fish at a young age, introduced to the sport by their father. Fishing became a way to spend time together, driven by adventure and a desire to hone their skills. Long before Malosi, the brothers began building handmade lures, obsessed with quality, craftsmanship, and catching big fish on their own creations. Samoa became where those ideas, and their resilience, were put to the test.

As part of the Origins collaboration between Daiwa and Malosi Studio, the Brothers have created three one-of-a-kind custom Vader lures, each matching one of Daiwa’s iconic spinning reels. Niko has also sketched three, one-of-a-kind pen drawings, matching each of the legendary Daiwa heritage reels.

LEGENDARY REEL SKETCHES

15 Saltiga 6500H

Jon & Niko used this reel in Samoa while testing their first batch of handmade prototypes. It caught the first GT, and now serves as a sentimental reminder of where it all started.

Saltiga Dogfight 8000H

This reel marked a turning point in JE Wilds’ early progression, helping him to target and land some of New Zealand’s largest land-based kingfish effectively.

Saltiga Z 4500H

Briggsy sights this reel as his first serious spinning reel and can be seen in action throughout all the first Morningtide films helping land huge fish in brutal landbased fights.

These extremely limited collector’s lures and artworks will be available to win when Origins launches in early 2027.
